Wow… hello again fellow readers (if any remain) it’s been quite some time since I’ve posted a blog with actual content rather than lyrics so here goes.
What Really Grinds My Gears…
…are articles in the paper that I’d hardly rate as “news worthy”.
I can’t remember too many of the articles I’ve read previously (as it was hardly news in the first place) but the article that has triggered my urge to blog was a story about one of Collingwood’s most infamous cheer squad members Joffa.
For those who haven’t seen or heard anything about the article it refers to a photo Joffa uploaded to a Collingwood fan club forum of him standing by a brick wall holding a couple guns in a Chopper Read like pose. The article basically explains how inappropriate the photo is and has a big dig at Joffa.
Now although I can understand why people may be upset or offended by the photo (for both the content and the fact it was put on a fan forum) I can’t comprehend why the photo was featured in both Tuesday and Wednesday’s Herald Sun (It was a full page story in Wednesday’s paper one or two pages in).
Although the photo is inappropriate for the forum it’s just a photo of Joffa holding some guns… why is it such a big deal? The post in the forum it was found would have been locked (at least) then deleted by the moderators once either they found it themselves or when it was reported by another user.
By placing a full page article accompanied by the photo in the paper is just making the situation worse. The media has taken something that would have offended maybe a few hundred people on a forum and made it a national news article read by thousands (if not millions) of people. It’s the media who have caused the problem not Joffa (Media?...Cause problems?…Never!).
Clearly Joffa is ”not all there” and I find it fairly depressing how quickly people have condemned the poor guy. Am I the only person who thinks this? Everyone in the office I work at (including Collingwood supporters) have been talking about this photo and how appalling it is.
It’s not a big deal and it’s definitely not news worthy! Grow up people!

The same thing happened with Bill Henson. Things cause more offence because they're hyped up.
Most news these days is beating up stories for "rabble rousing" - getting people annoyed about something. It's really pathetic, even if it does sell. Everyone seems to reckon the Herald Sun is a piece of trash, but if you get over The Age's broadsheet, their stories are just as weak. They're just more lefty/politically correct bullshit.
No wonder people have turned to blogs and journo blogs. At least they only report when there's a story, not when the next printed edition needs something to fill the space between advertisements.
