Movie Review: Transformers

Since its initial release in Australia I have seen the Transformers movie twice and it wouldn’t surprise me if I ventured to the cinemas to see it at least one more time before it disappears from the big screen. Honestly I think this is one of the better TV/comic/cartoon series to cinema re-writes I’ve ever seen, the creators of the movie managed to piece so many things together and they did it well.
Many people have spoken out about the poor dialogue and acting in the film, however in my opinion it’s just kept the same type of dialogue and language used in the original cartoon which is one of the key reasons why Transformers was popular. I don’t think people should have expected academy award winning acting in a film largely based around transforming robots anyway it’s just common sense.
The big draw for this film is the outstanding special effects used, they really make the robots transformations quite believable. The scenes where the Transformers interacted with humans were very well done, you could almost believe that it was a real robot and not CGI being used.
My only issue with the film is the music used in the action scenes. The song choices were fine but the way it was all cut together was a little annoying. There are a couple of scenes in the movie where the music seems to cut out during inappropriate parts of a song. It seems that during the editing process they probably cut a lot out of the scenes and the music just doesn’t fit the scene anymore. This leads me to believe however that when it’s released on to DVD (which I’m already eagerly awaiting) there may be an extended edition released.
All in all Transformers is a must see film for all geeks and nerds alike. I give the film a 5 out of 5.
