Just another blog about my views on stuff and things (mostly stuff, things aren't as cool) and what ever else is going on in my life.

No Room At The Inn

Well it’s that time of the month again (I’m not talking about my aunt flow visiting either) and it seems this time I will be unable to escape what I’ve been avoiding for at least three years now. It’s been a heated topic of discussion between my parents and I in the past and quite probably in the future. What am I talking about you may be asking yourself? Or maybe you’re asking yourself why the hell am I still reading this? Regardless of what you’re asking yourself I’m talking about the ongoing issue of paying board.

Before I start my ranting I should make myself clear. A agree whole heartedly with my parents that I should be paying board, it’s just the simple matter of I don’t want to because there is much more useful things I can put my money towards. For example the $30 a week or whatever it may end up being could be put towards bills, savings, credit cards or my ever growing pile of medical expenses. As a matter of fact when I told my parents I was seriously pondering the idea of moving out they told me I should reconsider as it’s easier to save from home (granted that’s true) and even easier for me as I don’t have to worry about board.

Even though it’s only roughly $30 out of my pocket if I live at home compared to $55 a week plus groceries, added bills and food for myself if I choose to move out, and me being the stubborn person I am this just pushes me further out the door. I’d much rather spend the extra cash and get as far away from home as possibly in the end the pros (don’t have to deal with parents, living with people I actually enjoy spending time with, the experience even) will most likely outweigh the cons (less money, doing my own washing – which I’ve started doing now anyway, it’s a lot harder to save, actually have to worry about if there’s food in the cupboard) so it would be worth my while. I already provide most of my own food at home anyway and have been doing to for a while now since I decided my family eats too much unhealthy food.

The only thing stoping me from moving out right now is the debt I like to call my “unmanageable” debt repayments which simply is the debt I’m struggling to manage with paying off right now, if I were to move out it will be impossible. In the end I will make the decision based on my tax return as silly as that sounds. If I can get around $2000 back (sadly it’s unlikely, but if I’m meant to move out now, you know fate and all that kind of mumbo jumbo I will get the return I need) it will give me some breathing room and pay back a rather large chunk of my unmanageable debt.

Hello,
But why would you want to move out and leave me alone!!!
Lol, the thing i don't get about board is, why after 21 years of living bored free, (and now that you spend less time at home and pay for most of your own food), is it that you need to pay bored. Considering they arnt spending any more money on you??
Do you get what i mean?
anyway im sick and bored sooo...

I can tell you why Lawree, parents are retarded its as simple as that. Plus I guess they want money. They probably think it'll help Brodie be more responsible in managing his cash and that now he has been working for awhile its about time he started to contribute to the household. Or moved out. Hope u get the cash u need from ur tax bro...

I agree brodie, I have being paying my parents $60 a week for nearly 4 years! Thanks over $12,000 I have given to my parents and all i get back is never ending shit from them. Im over it all as much as you brodie, and I too have some debt to pay off, from my trip, but im moving out anyway before I go insane at home.

I saw a place today, hopefully they let me rent it, keep your fingers crossed for me!

I pay more than all you dorks ($100 a week) and I'm actually GLAD I'm still allowed to be at home... $100 a week is still cheaper than what I would have to pay if I moved out and had to pay for utilities and had to wash all my shit myself.

yeah, i have no issue with board if said person is working full time.

30 bucks isn't much at all, considering, and you'd probably spend that on a piercing/new DVD/ebay/night out for dinner.

I just wish I HAD money!!!

yeah i agree...
i should be paying board, but they also said they dont want me moving out so me being stuborn would be more inclined to move out even if they were only charging me $10 a week...

It's fair enough for parents to charge board - it's the start of the "payback" cycle in their eyes (as soon as you're independent) for all those things they had to buy for you as a kid. Food and all that.

$30 a week isn't bad, plus you've been working for a while, so it's not your parents fault that you haven't saved anything. If you're really in debt, I guess you don't have much choice but to stay.
